Smoothies seem like a great option for a quick, healthy breakfast, but allergy-free versions can be deceiving. Most are all fruit, which mean they’re often full of high-glycemic produce like mango or banana and high in sugar. Plus, the lack of protein means that you’ll find yourself full an hour later.
For a breakfast without a side of snack attacks, we love this Ginger Blackberry Oat Smoothie in the morning. Gluten-free oats fill you up and give you a good dose of fiber. You can find coconut milk yogurt (or another dairy-free yogurt) in the dairy aisle.
Ginger Blackberry Oat Smoothie
1/4 cup gluten-free oats
1/2 cup blackberries
1/2 teaspoon minced or grated ginger
1 teaspoon maple syrup (or sweetener of your choice)
4 oz coconut milk yogurt
Place oats and 1/2 cup water in a blender. Let soak 5 minutes.
Add blackberries, ginger, maple syrup, coconut milk yogurt and 1/2 cup ice. Blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
